She’s the First is a not-for-profit located in New York, NY that sponsor’s girls’ education in the developing world. Their goal is to help young women become the first in their families and sometimes villages to graduate from high school.
This organization hatched only two years ago in 2009 by a passionate twenty three year old named Tammy Tibbetts, who is now the president and founder of She’s the First. Inspired by the power of communications and social media, Tammy started She’s the First as an online media campaign, but has since grown into an internationally known non-profit.
Imagine a young girl in a developing country unable to attend secondary school due to her family’s economic status, and then picture an organization that gives this girl the opportunity to be the first in her families to graduate from high school. This is exactly what She’s the First sets their focus on, to foster a female generation of global leaders, and cross-cultural communicators. She’s the First is inspiring young girls in America to create fundraising events, and build their leadership skills as they help girls in other countries reach their potential.
What makes She’s the First different is that it’s run by young, passionate communications savvy individuals and has a huge Facebook and Twitter presence, with an expanding online collection of promo videos.
Their fundraising efforts extend from bake sales with rainbow cupcakes, to donation designed spaghetti parties for friends, donation campaigns on Facebook, and benefit concerts held in New York City. The idea behind this form of fundraising is to bring together large groups of people who may not be able to give a lot individually, but by pooling the donation efforts of many STF has been able to sponsor girls education internationally.
